North York Moors Leisure Guides
It was this guide co-operative that tempted the creation of our co-operative. If you are considering being guided in North Devon and Exmoor, then there is a good chance that you will also consider using the same service in the beautiful North York Moors. If that is the case then go to www.nymleisureguides.co.uk
Exmoor National Park
The Exmoor National Park have an informative site which can help you get an insight into what this National Park holds in store for you. Their rangers are part of our co-operative. To find out more about Exmoor go to www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk
North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Our co-operative was assisted in its creation by the Sustainable Development Fund administered by the ND-AONB. This enabled us to get some marketing and training set up so that those guide members who needed extra training were able to come up to speed. For more information on the North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty go to www.northdevon-aonb.org.uk
UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
North Devon is privileged to have the only Biosphere Reserve in the UK meeting the new standards. It is managed by the North Devon Coast and Countryside Team. For more information on this Biosphere go to its web site.
The South West Coast Path
The North Devon and Exmoor section of this long-distance path is often considered to be amongst the best sections of this challenging path. It is maintained by the Highway Authorities and the Exmoor National Park Authority. The South West Coast Path Association is the largest user group and its web site has a wealth of information about the path. For more information go to www.swcp.org.uk.
The North Devon Voluntary Marine Conservation Area
This covers the coastline from Combe Martin to Croyde and was set up in recognition of the special marine wildlife that covers this section of the coastline. It is managed by the Devon Wildlife Trust. For more information go the their web site.
QuickTide Tide Tables
This is an ingenious tide table which lasts for 2 years and covers large sections of our coast. There is one that covers all the south west coast and more. It is something you can carry in the car and will always give you an accurate idea of what the local tide is doing. I have tried it out myself and found it to be amply accurate enough for activities on land that can be effected by the tide. For more information go to their web site at www.quicktide.co.uk.
Weather Forecast
It is always useful to have a good idea of what the weather is going to do while outside, particularly when in the more remote areas such as open moorland. To help you see what the local weather is doing go to www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/sw/sw_forecast_weather.html.
